When the lovely folks at Thorntons got in touch to see if I wanted to share some festive love and gift a box of choccies to someone deserving I knew immediately who was top of the list.
I’m one of the the millions of young people who are part of the so-called ‘Boomerang Generation’ who simply cannot afford to permanently fly the nest.
When I went to university I lived away from home and spent four glorious years living the student dream with my friends – eating my body weight in pizza, drinking a fair amount and, erm, studying.
But when I graduated back in 2010 the UK was still in the grip of the early days of the recession and getting any kind of paid work was tricky.
I eventually managed to get a part-time job waitressing but my attempts to get a writing job were pretty tragic.
So instead of waving their daughter off to a new job and home of her own they were landed with me… and all of the stuff I’d accumulated over the last four years. Joy and happiness.
It seems only fair that the choccies go to my mum and dad, two of the loveliest and most supportive people gracing the planet.
This indulgent selection features a whopping four layers including all the ones listed below…. certainly not a gift for someone counting the calories!
Not only does it contain all these indulgent treats but comes wrapped up very prettily, perfect to give as a pre-wrapped present.
The reason they were crowned my chocolatey heroes? I leave the house for work at 7am and the earliest I get in is 7.30pm, though sometimes it’s as late as 9pm.
Without fail one of them will pick me up from the station while the other has my tea ready as soon as I get in and a sympathetic ear if I’ve had a bad day.
They’ve always been hugely supportive of me and always go out of their way to help me out.
Mama Vintage has braved the coldest of weathers to help me get vintage outfit shots just so and has even been roped into being in front of the camera to be the model.
My dad not only gives me lifts at obscene o’clock in morning or late at night but has been known, on more than one occasion, to be the one out of the group to end up carrying all of my shopping. What a love!
I know this doesn’t in any way match up to everything they’ve done for me over the years, but it was nice to surprise them and give them the opportunity to indulge in a little pre-Christmas treat.
Thanks to you both, and for being such good sports in front of the camera… yet again!Disclosure: I’m taking part in the Thorntons Christmas Hero competition
