Superman, Captain Manchester…. Mancunian Vintage? Stupidly simple no-sew cape tutorial

Batman, Robin, Superman, hell even Captain Manchester, have all got something I want.

Not a body of steel (though I wouldn’t say no to some finely-honed abs of my own) but a fabulous wardrobe staple  – a cape.

It’s no secret that I’ve been lusting after one of these for a while now, but I either can’t find exactly what I’m after or when I do find something it’s a little out of my price range.

So in the spirit of all things thrifty I decided to have a go at making my own seriously simple no-sew cape. You can find the tutorial here.

What started life as a nice, but pretty boring, skirt…

Was transformed into this…

CAPE-TACULAR! Simple upcycle

I managed to get this done within 10 mins… most of the time was spent arranging it so it would hang just so and ripping out the lining seams.

It’s a cracking little piece which is perfect for flinging on over some skinny jeans or leggings and with mahoosive knee-high boots.

You could even create belt loops and thread a skinny belt through for added waist definition.

One’s thing for sure, I’ll be keeping a beady out in charity shops for over-sized tartan and wool skirts that would make crackin’ winter additions.

So now, finally, I’ve made the ranks of the caped crusaders – huzzah!

Fantastic re purposing – the skirt looks a million times cooler as a cape and something Topshop would probably charge a blinkin’ fortune for, too! x

Glad it’s not just me who likes it – was worried I was going a bit nuts thinking that it looked like a cape when in fact I just looked like I had a skirt slung around my neck! 😉

  2. Hi there! what a fabulous idea and your one looks amazing-very unique and stylish xxx
