If being surrounded by a bevvy of vintage beauties, listening to classic Christmas tunes and indulging in lashings of gin sounds like your idea of a great night, then you would have loved last Wednesday evening at The Whim Wham Café.
Celebrating the launch of her vintage pin-up calendar Bethany Jane Davies, along with her calendar girls, put on a wonderful evening of live entertainment including vocal performances from Kiki de Ville and Bexi Owen, and burlesque by Frankii Wilde.
Not only was it a fabulous evening, but I finally got my mitts on a copy of the calendar… and it was certainly worth the wait.
Featuring 12 beautiful ladies decked-out in their finest vintage attire, this calendar is the perfect stocking-filler – in every sense of the word!
I don’t know about you, but when I get a new calendar I always have a flick-through the pictures to weigh-up which month isn’t that great.
(Does this sound beyond weird, or are there other calendar critics out there?)
But I can honestly say there isn’t one month that’s lets it down as each picture is expertly styled and beautifully presented.
Speaking of which Kiki DeVille, our compère, singer and model for December, certainly got into the festive spirit.
Not only did she look fabulous, but she treated us to some wonderful old-school Christmas classics.
One song that stuck in my head, even through the gin-induced haze, was the saucy Santa Claus Got Stuck in my Chimney.
If you haven’t heard it, get yourself over to YouTube to hear the original Ella Fitzgerald version!
Up next was Bexi Owen – doesn’t she look lovely in this sheer sparkly outfit?
Following on from this was a burlesque performance by Frankii Wilde.
I did take pictures, but she must have been whirling like a demon with her enormous pink feather fans as every picture I’ve got of her is a sequinned blur.
And at one point I got a diamanté-encrusted glove launched at my face, which made taking photographs more difficult!
If you want to see photos of her in action, head over to her Facebook page.
Not only was I there to enjoy the evening and get hold of the calendar, I was also charged with the near-impossible task of judging the best dressed competition.
Seeing as everyone looked marvellous I knew the minute I stepped through the door it was going to be a tough one to call.
However after several minutes of perusing I found my winner in Carla Marques (far right) who I thought looked exquisite in her vintage ensemble.
Check out Kalandra and Emma who also look pretty darn amazing – great to finally meet you!
An honourable mention must go to the divine Charlie of the Gin Fuelled Blue Stocking for this amazing red hat she wore with casual aplomb.
Of course I wanted a piece of the action, so jumped in for a photo….
